SUMMARY:Pathways to Disability Empowerment: Continuing to Navigate the Job Search with the Mac
DESCRIPTION:Person using a Mac \nPathways to Disability Empowerment: Continuing to Navigate the Job Search with the Mac \nFor job seekers who are blind\, low vision\, DeafBlind\, or blind with other disabilities\, knowing how to use accessible technology can be an important part of navigating today’s employment landscape. As more people use Apple computers at home\, school\, and work\, learning how to effectively use the Mac for a job search can open new ways to find and apply for employment opportunities. \nJoin The Lighthouse for the Blind\, Inc. for Pathways to Disability Empowerment: Continuing to Navigate the Job Search with the Mac\, a free online webinar designed specifically for job seekers who are blind\, low vision\, DeafBlind\, or blind with other disabilities. \nLearn How to Use a Mac for Your Job Search\nSearching for employment online requires navigating job boards\, reading job descriptions\, completing applications\, uploading documents\, and interacting with websites that may vary considerably in accessibility. \nThis webinar takes a targeted look at how blind and low vision job seekers can use a Mac to navigate the job search process more efficiently and effectively. \nParticipants will learn about: \n\nAccessibility settings that can make the Mac easier to use for people who are blind or have low vision\nActions and strategies for navigating different online job listing sites with a Mac\nUsing a Mac to read job postings and complete online employment applications\nNavigating prominent employment websites\, including Indeed and LinkedIn\nResources and training opportunities for developing stronger Mac skills\n\nMac Accessibility for Blind and Low Vision Users\nApple includes a variety of accessibility features within macOS to support people with different disabilities. For blind job seekers\, VoiceOver provides built-in screen-reading capabilities for navigating applications\, websites\, documents\, and other digital content. \nPeople with low vision can also customize their Mac experience using accessibility features that support magnification\, display adjustments\, contrast\, text visibility\, and other visual preferences. \nKnowing how to configure and use these tools can make a significant difference when completing the many online tasks involved in a modern job search. \nDuring the webinar\, presenters will discuss Mac accessibility for blind and low vision users and how these features can be applied specifically to employment-related activities. \nNavigating Job Sites Like Indeed and LinkedIn with a Mac\nOnline job platforms have become an essential part of finding employment. However\, each website can present different navigation and accessibility challenges. \nThis webinar will focus on practical strategies for using a Mac to identify job openings and apply for positions online. \nPresenters will discuss navigating prominent employment sites such as Indeed and LinkedIn\, including approaches that can help job seekers move through web pages\, locate important information\, and complete applications. \nRather than focusing only on individual Mac commands\, the webinar will connect accessible technology skills with the real-world process of finding and pursuing employment. \nFind Resources for Learning to Use a Mac\nLearning a new computer system takes time and practice. For someone transitioning from Windows to a Mac—or learning to use a computer with assistive technology for the first time—additional training can be especially valuable. \nParticipants will receive information about Mac training resources for blind and low vision users that can help them continue building their skills after the webinar. \nWhether you already use a Mac or are considering making the transition\, this session can help you better understand the tools and resources available to support your employment goals. \nMeet the Presenters\nHerbie Allen\nHerbie Allen is blind and has used computers since his late teens. Today\, the Mac is his primary computer. Herbie is an instructor involved with iBUG Today and its Mac training program\, where he helps others build their skills and confidence using Apple technology. \nGaylen Floy\nGaylen Floy has used the Mac since 1990\, beginning as a graphic designer. As her vision changed because of Retinitis Pigmentosa\, she began using the Mac’s low vision accessibility features. Today\, Gaylen is an Assistive Technology instructor who teaches both Windows and Mac skills. \nTogether\, Herbie and Gaylen bring personal and professional experience to this practical discussion of accessible technology\, Mac skills\, and employment. \nWho Should Attend This Free Career Webinar?\nThis webinar is designed for job seekers who are blind\, low vision\, DeafBlind\, or blind with other disabilities who want to strengthen their ability to use technology during the employment search. \nThe session may be particularly helpful for people who: \n\nCurrently use a Mac and want to improve their job-search skills\nAre considering transitioning from Windows to a Mac\nWant to learn more about Mac accessibility features\nNeed strategies for navigating online job boards and applications\nAre looking for additional Mac training and assistive technology resources\n\nNo matter where you are in your career journey\, developing strong technology skills can help you navigate employment resources with greater independence. \nRegister for the Free Mac Job Search Webinar\nJoin The Lighthouse for the Blind\, Inc. on Tuesday\, September 15\, 2026\, at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time for this free online webinar. \nRegister for Pathways to Disability Empowerment: Continuing to Navigate the Job Search with the Mac \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with information about joining the webinar. \nIf you have questions or need assistance registering\, please contact WorkforceDevelopment@LHBlind.org. \nThe Lighthouse for the Blind\, Inc. is committed to creating opportunities for people who are blind\, DeafBlind\, and blind with other disabilities through employment\, training\, and services that support independence and career development.
