At The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc., we believe that everyone deserves the chance to gain meaningful work experience that prepares them for future employment. That’s why our AbilityOne Base Supply Centers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) are proud to partner with Clover Park Technical College’s Transition Program, offering valuable in-store support and on-the-job training for young adults with disabilities.
A Partnership with Purpose
The Clover Park Technical College Transition Program serves students ages 18–22 with disabilities, focusing on helping them bridge the gap between school and employment. By teaming up with The Lighthouse’s AbilityOne Base Supply Centers on JBLM, transition students gain a unique opportunity to practice workplace skills in a supportive, real-world environment.
This partnership provides students with:
- Hands-on training in customer service, stocking, and retail operations.
- Professional development skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Confidence-building experiences that prepare them for long-term employment.
A Win-Win Collaboration
This initiative is more than just a training program—it’s a win-win for students, the AbilityOne Base Supply Centers, and the community. Students gain valuable, practical work-based learning experiences that help them transition into the workforce, while the Base Supply Centers benefit from additional in-store support and fresh perspectives.
Together, we are building a pipeline of skilled, confident, and motivated young professionals who are ready to enter the workforce with a strong foundation.
Preparing for the Future
Students in the Clover Park Transition Program don’t just learn retail tasks—they learn independence, responsibility, and the importance of teamwork. By applying what they learn in the classroom to real work environments, these young adults are better prepared to achieve their career goals and succeed in the future.
This partnership exemplifies The Lighthouse’s commitment to empowering people who are blind, DeafBlind, and with other disabilities through sustainable employment opportunities, training, and career development.
