Uniting Community at the 2025 DeafBlind Retreat
The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. proudly hosted its 2025 DeafBlind Retreat, bringing together participants, volunteers, and staff for a week filled with connection, learning, and fun. This annual retreat has become a cornerstone event for the DeafBlind community, offering opportunities for personal growth, social bonding, and empowerment.
A Week of Connection and Joy
From the very first day, the atmosphere was filled with excitement. Participants arrived eager to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. The retreat offered inclusive activities designed to celebrate independence and community spirit, including:
- Workshops and Learning Sessions – Covering technology, mobility, communication, and advocacy.
- Outdoor Adventures – Hiking, tandem biking, and group nature walks in a safe, guided environment.
- Arts and Creativity – Craft workshops, tactile art, and music sessions encouraged self-expression.
- Social Gatherings – The retreat featured evening dances, storytelling circles, and game nights that sparked joy and laughter.
Empowerment Through Accessibility
Accessibility was at the heart of the retreat. With Support Service Providers (SSPs), interpreters, and adaptive tools, every participant could engage fully. This year’s retreat also introduced new tactile communication workshops and demonstrations of the latest assistive technology—giving participants fresh tools to thrive in daily life.
Building Lasting Friendships
Beyond the activities, the retreat was about building lasting relationships and uniting the DeafBlind community. Many attendees described it as their favorite week of the year, a time where they feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Volunteers and staff shared how meaningful it was to witness these moments of connection.
