Last week, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. hosted our annual Opportunities Breakfast, a transformative morning dedicated to celebrating the lives of individuals who are blind and DeafBlind in the Greater Spokane Community. The event was not only a showcase of personal stories but also a crucial fundraiser to support programs and services for those with visual impairments.
Voices of Experience
George Abbott, the President and CEO, shared an address that touched upon the importance of the Opportunities Breakfast in sustaining essential programs and services. Additionally, Everett Elam, Computer and Technology Skills Instructor, shared a personal journey of overcoming challenges related to blindness and finding meaningful employment at the Lighthouse.
Raising Funds for a Purpose
This year, the Opportunities Breakfast raised over $25,000 to ensure the continued strength of Employee and Community Services. These funds play a pivotal role in supporting vital training programs such as orientation and mobility, braille literacy, and computer and assistive technology training. For 15 years, the Lighthouse has been a beacon of support in the Spokane community, and the success of this fundraiser ensures that their mission endures.
The Opportunities Breakfast is more than a fundraising event; it is a demonstration of unity within the Greater Spokane Community. Attendees, sponsors, and contributors became integral parts of a collective effort to brighten futures, realize dreams, and create a place where experiences are shared.
