At the heart of Spokane, Washington, lies a beacon of hope for the visually impaired – the Lighthouse. One of the reasons our institution stands tall is because of support from organizations like Empowering People.
Empowering People: A Catalyst for Change
Empowering People stands as a pillar of compassionate care, serving over 350 clients and 175 assisted living, supported living, and adult family homes. Their mission is to encourage and educate caregivers and facility owners to deliver remarkable residential care.
CEO Craig Landron’s Connection to the Lighthouse Mission
For Empowering People’s CEO, Craig Landron, the connection to the Lighthouse began long ago. Craig shares, “I am old enough to remember when the Lighthouse building was a Tidyman’s grocery store. I remember the first day the Lighthouse logo went up on the building.” It was then that he thought that there could be some connection between the Lighthouse and Empowering People, but he never realized how close the two organizations would become.
After the Spokane, WA location of the Lighthouse opened, VP of Marketing and Public Relations, Shawn Dobbs began attending the same Kiwanis Club as Craig. That is when the relationship blossomed. Empowering People’s connection with the Lighthouse does not stop there. Craig’s brother is also a Foundation Board Member and former employee at the Lighthouse’s Seattle facility.
Mission Harmony: Empowering People and the Lighthouse
Craig shares that his organization wanted to support the Lighthouse because of how our organizations align. Some of the people living in supported living facilities are blind, or low vision, and need a job. The Lighthouse is uniquely positioned to offer jobs for people that need accessible workstations, training, and support services to help them succeed in those jobs.
By providing jobs and fostering independence, the Lighthouse empowers its community members to thrive. This alignment underscores the symbiotic relationship between the two organizations, where each strengthens the other’s impact.
Supporting the Lighthouse
Craig invites others to experience the Lighthouse firsthand. He shares, “if you are thinking about volunteering, you should go to the Lighthouse and see it! See what they do. Once you do, you will get it.”
