The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is pleased to announce that we are a recipient of a 2024 Inspiration Foundation Assistive Technology Grant!

The Inspiration Foundation (a family foundation created by Cleanlogic founder and CEO, Isaac Shapiro) maintains a steadfast belief in the mission of empowering people who are blind and low vision by including Braille product descriptors across all packaging. Issac’s primary inspiration is his mom, who lost her sight when she was seven, but never let it stop her.

Through her hard work, she became a passionate advocate, helping other blind and visually impaired individuals gain employment, which is so crucial to the blind and low vision community, 70% of whom are unemployed.

The Inspiration Foundation’s Board believes that successful job placement and retention depend on strong technology skills and that independent living skills are augmented by technology.

The Lighthouse will use the grant to purchase TeamViewer software for our computer and adaptive technology training programs, which will expand accessibility and opportunity for individuals who are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities.

George Abbott, our President and CEO, accepted the award during VisionServe Alliance’s Focused on the Future 2024 Leadership Conference last month.
