We are excited to announce that in person tours are back!

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc.’s Tour Program is one of our long-standing efforts focused on raising awareness of blindness and DeafBlindness within the community. The program educates children in the fifth grade, future leaders and employers in our community, as well as adult community members, in understanding and appreciating the capabilities of people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. By encouraging visits through this program, we hope that everyone who participates will gain an understanding and promote independence and self-sufficiency for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Tours are offered at our Seattle and Spokane, Washington locations and at our  facility in Summerville, South Carolina. A tour of the Lighthouse provides guests with an opportunity to see a wide spectrum of people who are blind in a successful working environment. Visits can include a walking tour through our Machine Shop where adults who are blind manufacture aerospace and defense parts, a presentation on writing and reading in braille, a visit to our Computer Training Program to view different assistive technologies used by individuals who are blind, talking to someone trained in Orientation and Mobility, and meeting an employee who is DeafBlind who communicates by using American Sign Language. Guests will also learn about the opportunities for volunteering and employment.

Please fill out the form below, and Katy Todd, our Tour Manager, will get back to you shortly to schedule your tour.
