This July the Lighthouse honors and celebrates independence and accessibility for all. In addition to commemorating our nation’s Declaration of Independence on July 4th, we’re proud to recognize the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) enacted July 26th, 1990.
The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and provides equal access to jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. This important law, similar to other civil rights legislation, ensures people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities to public life as everyone else.
At the Lighthouse we understand that access and equal opportunity are important in helping our employees who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities achieve independence and self-sufficiency.
Please join us in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the ADA this summer and remember that we all have the right to independence, accessibility, and opportunity.
