Every year, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. recognizes employees whose dedication, leadership, and commitment to others exemplify what it means to live our mission. The Mission Values and Performance (MVP) Award celebrates individuals who consistently go above and beyond, not only in their own work, but in the way they support teammates, solve problems, and champion accessibility, in turn exemplifying our core values which strengthens our culture.

The 2026 MVP Award recipients represent nearly every corner of our organization, from manufacturing and warehousing to purchasing, finance, operations, and administration. Together, they demonstrate that success at the Lighthouse is built on collaboration, innovation, accountability, and a shared commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities.

Celebrating Excellence Across the Organization

While every recipient has a unique story, common themes emerged throughout this year’s nominations.

Managers consistently praised employees who:

  • Take initiative without being asked.
  • Share their knowledge through training and mentoring.
  • Promote safe and accessible workplaces.
  • Demonstrate accountability and integrity.
  • Create welcoming, respectful work environments.
  • Represent the Lighthouse mission both inside and outside the organization.

Meet the 2026 MVP Award Recipients

Chris Loomis

Chris has spent many years helping shape not only the Lighthouse, but accessibility throughout the broader community. As a DeafBlind employee, he has continually adapted alongside changes in his vision, pioneering workplace accommodations that have benefited countless others. From advocating for accessible CNC technology to helping influence the design of Seattle’s Coleman Ferry Terminal through tactile wayfinding and Braille navigation, Chris demonstrates that leadership extends far beyond the workplace. His willingness to share his experiences publicly also makes him an exceptional ambassador for the Lighthouse mission.

Donnie Russell

Donnie exemplifies servant leadership. Whether training coworkers on CNC routers, volunteering for overtime, or simply boosting morale by bringing lunch or treats for the team, he consistently invests in those around him. His knowledge-sharing and dependable work ethic strengthen both employee confidence and the organization’s manufacturing capabilities.

Elma Karovic

Known for her positivity and willingness to help, Elma has become a trusted resource for coworkers across the production floor. She assists with accessibility, technology, training, safety, and mentoring while creating an environment where teammates know they can count on her. Her leadership is reflected as much in her daily encouragement as it is in her technical expertise.

Jeffery Ly

Jeffery has earned a reputation as the person everyone turns to for help. Whether assisting other departments or teaching coworkers new skills, he generously shares his knowledge and helps others succeed. His collaborative spirit strengthens the entire organization.

Jhuanna Mendoza

As a Buyer for the GSA/4PL program, Jhuanna processed more than $15 million in orders during 2025–2026 while serving Navy customers with remarkable precision and professionalism. Beyond her impressive performance, she is recognized for clear communication, accountability, cross-functional leadership, and her commitment to continuous improvement. Her work directly supports both Lighthouse operations and national defense readiness.

Jose Roman

Jose is known for his initiative, positive attitude, and willingness to help wherever needed. Whether guiding coworkers, assisting bilingual employees, maintaining quality standards, or simply lifting team morale with his sense of humor, Jose consistently demonstrates the values of teamwork, accountability, and respect.

Jose Segarra

From managing warehouse operations to serving on the internal audit team, Jose has become an indispensable member of the Lighthouse team. His reliability, initiative, commitment to safety, and willingness to support coworkers exemplify the leadership qualities recognized by this year’s MVP Award.

Keith Hobby

Keith is recognized for his positive attitude, thoughtful problem-solving, and collaborative approach. His practical insights and willingness to contribute ideas help improve projects across the organization while making him a valued teammate.

Leonard Paasch

Leonard’s professionalism, responsiveness, and respectful communication have made him an essential member of the AbilityOne Base Supply team. Whether helping resolve purchasing issues or supporting coworkers through day-to-day operations, Leonard consistently demonstrates teamwork and dependability.

Lucas Holster

Lucas leads by example through his technical expertise, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to quality and safety. He regularly trains new employees, supports mission employees throughout the production floor, and willingly steps into any role where help is needed. His professionalism and generosity have earned the respect of colleagues across the organization.

Mallory Bray

Mallory embraces every opportunity to learn, grow, and help others. Whether developing new skills, assisting coworkers, or supporting employees with mobility and training, she exemplifies the Lighthouse’s commitment to professional growth and teamwork.

Michael Martens

Michael’s leadership has earned the admiration of his team through his dedication, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to Lighthouse values. His positive attitude and focus on communication, accountability, respect, and teamwork make him an outstanding leader and deserving MVP recipient.

Robert “Tony” McKenzie

Representing the Summerville facility, Tony consistently demonstrates leadership by promoting accessibility, maintaining safe work environments, and ensuring every employee has the tools and support needed to succeed. His communication, teamwork, and accountability embody the Lighthouse culture.

Soalie Ro

Soalie is recognized for her strong work ethic, effective communication, and willingness to help others. Her approachable nature and dependable support contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace.
