For 97 years, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. has provided jobs, independence, and empowerment for individuals who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities. In 2008, the Lighthouse expanded and opened Inland Northwest Lighthouse (INL) in Spokane. As a nonprofit social enterprise, our mission is:

To create and enhance opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency
for people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities.

The Lighthouse is the only organization that specifically focusses on providing meaningful employment opportunities for people who are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities in Spokane. With our mission to develop sustainable jobs for our community comes the necessity to provide programs and services to ensure the success of our employees. These programs and services include our Braille Literacy Program, Computer Training Program, and Orientation and Mobility Training.

To ensure our programs and services are sustainable and to help build awareness of Inland Northwest Lighthouse in the community, the Lighthouse established the INL Advisory Council in 2009. The Council helps INL build relationships with organizations and community members along with assisting INL with its fundraising efforts for these unique and vitally important mission-related expenses.
