Attendees at the Customer Appreciation Day event

On July 19th The Lighthouse’s AbilityOne Base Supply Centers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM)  held a Customer Appreciation Day in honor of our 100-year anniversary. We had eleven commercial vendors and two agencies, to include the Lighthouse, present to show their products and engage with our customers. We served a barbeque lunch and cake. There were some great prizes, donated by the vendors, raffled off to our customers. Our first Base Supply Center was opened in 1999, and currently we operate seven BSC locations in Washington State, Nevada, and California.

In an effort to show our guests what individuals who are blind are capable of, we put on an exhibition Beep Ball game at a field near our North Fort store during our Customer Appreciation Day. Beep Ball is played with a beeping ball and buzzing bases. All players wear black out shades so that all players have no vision. The Tacoma Tide General Manager, Fred Baker, came out along with some Tacoma Tide team members and put on a wonderful demonstration. Several of our JBLM customers put on the black out shades and attempted to hit the ball without being able to see it. We had a great time and got some amazing videos. The customers all said they had a great time and have already been spreading the word about Beep Ball.

Overall, the event was a great success and both vendors and customers have let us know how much they enjoyed themselves!
