We’re honored to welcome George Abbott to The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. Board of Trustees. George was born blind due to under-developed optic nerves. He grew up in a suburb of Chicago, and after finishing high school earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance with a minor in Economics from Northern Illinois University (NIU). He continued at NIU to earn a Master’s of Education in Rehabilitation Teaching of Blind Adults. He also earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Illinois – Chicago.

In September of 2012, George joined the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) as the Director of the eLearning Center. In December of 2013, George was promoted to the position of Director of AFB Press and Professional Development.  We look forward to having his leadership and service on the Board of Trustees as he brings extensive knowledge of nonprofit management and over 20 years of experience providing programs and services to consumers who are visually impaired.
