As one of The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc.’s Employees of the Year for 2011, I had the opportunity to attend the National Industries for the Blind (NIB) Annual Training Conference in New Orleans this October. This was a fabulous experience.
One of the primary assemblies during the conference was the Employee of the Year Panel. I was told that this year was the first time our organization had an employee sitting on the panel. One of the panelists also stated that this time was the best panel they have had in many years.
Following that experience, I was invited by Kathy Gallagher, Learning and Development Manager, to participate in the NIB Effective Supervision Training. She told me in one of her emails that I was truly inspiring. I am privileged to have attended the conference with 81 other Employees of the Year from around the country. Their stories were amazing and there was much to learn from their experiences.
And, of course it was a great deal of fun being in New Orleans. I walked and danced on Bourbon St. with the locals. I went on a cruise through the Mississippi river. I ate raw oysters with our president Kirk Adams in a competition to see who could eat the most. We don’t know who actually won! Thank you Seattle Lighthouse for having me represent such a great organization at the conference!
