We are excited to announce a new product joining the Lighthouse family! This year we will begin manufacturing Army Litters with the Rigid Litter. An Army Litter is a collapsible stretcher utilized to transport injured patients safely. The Rigid Litter will create at least five new jobs, and all direct labor can be performed by individuals who are blind in Spokane. New equipment needed to manufacture the Litter arrived in Spokane in late 2018, with shipments of aluminum for the frame and durable mesh for the stretcher arriving soon. We are excited to add this lifesaving military necessity to our portfolio of manufactured goods.

Fast Facts:

  • Litters of various types have been used by the army since the 1980s.
  • The Lighthouse expects to make over 5,000 Rigid Litters in 2019.
  • The mesh components of the stretcher will be made by Alphapointe, a sister nonprofit agency based in Kansas City that employs people with visual impairments.
