For more than 90 years, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. has continually provided opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency for people in the greater Seattle area who are blind. Nearly 60 years ago, we began our machine shop operation, having been a continual contractor with The Boeing Company since 1951.

Today, The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is an ISO9001:2000 and AS9100 accredited manufacturer that employs more than 70 machinists who are blind and Deaf-Blind. A participant in the AbilityOne program, we are associated with the National Industries for the Blind. Our list of customers includes various Federal government organizations such as the Department of Defense, and commercial firms including The Boeing Company, Triumph Composite Systems, Inc., and BAE Systems.

In FY 2011 we purchased new high-tech equipment that takes us to the next level in the manufacturing world. We purchased four Okuma Mills, a robotic cell for the manufacturing of the entrenching tool (E-Tool), and two new wallboard machines at our Spokane facility. By increasing our capabilities we are able to expand into new directions for product development.
