Letter from President and CEO Pat O’Hara
Dear Donors, Partners, and Friends,
Stepping into the role of Lighthouse President and CEO this year has been both humbling and deeply meaningful. Having spent more than two decades at The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc., I have seen our organization weather economic shifts, industry changes, and moments of uncertainty before. This past year was one of those challenging seasons. It demanded resilience, adaptability, and patience from all of us.
There is no question that it was a hard business year. Market pressures and operational challenges required difficult decisions and steady focus. Yet, with the perspective that comes from many years here, I can say this with confidence: we are beginning to see familiar signs of recovery. The momentum is returning, partnerships remain steadfast, and the groundwork laid during this demanding period is starting to show results.
One of the brightest markers of progress this year was the five-year anniversary of our Low Vision Store and Clinic. For five years, this program has expanded independence and possibility for people with low vision, serving as both a community resource and a symbol of how innovation, expertise, and compassion come together at the Lighthouse. Our continuing collaborations with counties, cities, tribes, and foundations further extended that impact, ensuring services reach those who need them most.
Through the organization, our teams continued to advance manufacturing excellence, deepen relationships through AbilityOne Base Supply Centers, and invest in people through training and career development. These efforts reflect a Lighthouse that is evolving while staying rooted in its purpose.
Your steadfast commitment provides the vital stability we need to navigate challenging economic seasons. You are the engine behind our mission, and it is your support and belief in our work that ensures we can continue providing the critical services and life-changing career opportunities that our community relies on.
Leadership transitions invite reflection, but they also create opportunity. I am hopeful, not because the road ahead will be easy, but because I have seen, time and again, what this organization can do when we move forward together.
Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your belief in our mission. The future is taking shape, and we are ready for what comes next.
Pat O’Hara
