Daniel ‘Alex’ Carter
Alex Carter has spent more than 12 years building a successful career at The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. Joining in 2013 as a production worker, Alex advanced through multiple CNC machinist roles to become CNC Lead in Aerospace Manufacturing, where he now oversees second-shift operations and mentors team members. Born with retinoschisis, Alex has thrived through access to assistive technology, training, and an inclusive workplace culture. A graduate of the AJAC machinist apprenticeship, he leads with confidence, adaptability, and pride. Alex’s journey reflects the Lighthouse’s mission to empower long-term career growth and independence.

Melinda Slovernick
Melinda Slovernick’s journey at The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. reflects resilience, growth, and renewed purpose. After losing her vision in a severe car accident, Melinda rebuilt her career by joining the Lighthouse in 2015 in manufacturing, her first full-time job since becoming blind. With the support of accessible technology, she excelled and later transitioned into an Administrative Assistant role supporting AbilityOne Base Supply Centers. Today, Melinda is valued for her organization, dependability, and attention to detail. Through meaningful employment and community support, she has gained confidence, independence, and pride—demonstrating the transformative impact of opportunity.
