Resources

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit social enterprise empowering people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities through sustainable employment and transformative services for independence and career advancement since 1918.

We forge new employment opportunities, leveraging accessible technologies and work processes. Through training and technology, we offer a new trajectory for how people live their lives. Our employees inspire others by demonstrating that working with vision loss is possible. Many employers don’t know how to accommodate employees with disabilities, and in some cases, they can’t conceive of how a person who is blind could work in positions falsely considered suitable only for people with sight.

Over half of our dedicated staff members are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities, powering everything we do. As one of the largest employers of DeafBlind people in North America, the Lighthouse hires freelance ASL interpreters to meet the needs of DeafBlind employees in the Lighthouse facilities and at Lighthouse events, ensuring clear communication between colleagues.

The Lighthouse makes empowerment and upward mobility possible by offering nearly a dozen training programs, along with accessible workstations, tailored specifically to each employee, enabling empowerment and success on the job, and in life.

Your Legacy is Your Generosity

Your generosity through your will and estate plans ensure a future with the critical support, training and services for people who are blind, while creating your legacy of generosity. There are several uncomplicated and beneficial ways to accomplish this:

  • Gifts in your will can be a specific amount, a percentage, a remainder, or other property.
  • Name The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. as a beneficiary to your IRA, 401(k), life insurance, or other investment by filling out a simple form.
  • Donor Advised Funds (DAF) are created with a financial institution, and you make a tax-deductible deposit and then recommend grants to the Lighthouse over time while the funds grow tax-free.
  • Stock Donations – give stock directly to the Lighthouse and receive capital gains tax relief for yourself.

We all need to plan for all that we love, and our loved ones need a clear path to follow. Create your legacy of generosity and ensure a future where people who are blind have accessible employment and the skills to thrive.
